Developing the Whole Child

Dominican Pupils delighted to be SVP angels at Christmas 2022.

Our Year 11 and 12 pupils have been collecting for those in need within our local community. By each making a small contribution, pupils will ensure that we can provide vouchers for our local St Vincent De Paul Society to help families who are in real need within our local community.

This work has been co-ordinated by our newly established Dominican Award pupils in Lower Sixth. These pupils have agreed to complete a range of work within their local community and parish similar to the John Paul II awards that pupils used to complete. The newly created Dominican Award will be awarded to the pupils for their pastoral and liturgical work along with their social justice endeavours.

Today the group met with Mr Eugene Kelly from our local St Vincent De Paul Society to hand over a cheque of £700 to support the work of this vital charity at this most important time of the year.

Eugene Kelly spoke to our junior school at assembly today telling them that the SVP campaign this year revolved around the eat or heat decision facing many homes as the cost -of- living crisis comes knocking at their door this Christmas.  He told students that the help they had given would, “Never be forgotten by the people you have helped.”

Eugene continued

“This year we have chosen a traditional Christmas angel from Ukraine to symbolise our campaign in tribute to our friends whose lives have been shattered.  From the moment you give to SVP, your kindness sets off on a journey to find your neighbours. Whenever you contribute to SVP

You are the wave of relief that rushes through a mother’s heart as she is handed an envelope filled with food vouchers.

You are the gentle words in the ear of a father who finds himself having to turn to the SVP for the first time.

You are the joy in the eyes of a child as they unwrap the present they are waiting for.

Thank you for all you have done for our local SVP in the past and for all you have done again to support this really important cause. Have a happy and restful Christmas”.
